We’re really excited to invite you to our latest Supper Club evening with live music from both TUPPENNY BLUE AND our very special guests at this fabulously atmospheric community venue. Situated just across from the famous North Yorkshire Moors Grosmont Station/Engine sheds/Railway line this really will be a very unique night. As well as a live performance by acclaimed 5 Piece Band Tuppenny Blue we have also lined up a very classy duet of Paul Whittaker and Lola Rose Wilson. The food is prep’d and managed by Liz Druce of Gingerbread cottage – known for great quality and generous portions AND we’ll be dressing the place up a little bit to achieve the right atmosphere. You really will NOT get a night out like this anywhere else! This evening event is fully licenced and we’ve laid on a bar which will also serve teas and coffees. If you live in Whitby we’re spoiling you even more by laying on a (return) minibus!
The meal comprises 3 courses of fresh local cooked food with a vegetarian option available . This will be a night of Community, Sociablity, Music and Fun. For more details and to reserve YOUR place we’ve listed comprehensive details below. A limited number of tickets are onsale NOW for this event. Book your place with friends for a great night out to remember.
Tuppenny Blue are a Five-Piece band based in/around Whitby on The Yorkshire Coast. They meld their own unique sound of storytelling with a Bluesy/Jazz/Pop twist built upon “Quintessentially English songwriting – somewhere between The Divine Comedy and Elbow”. They’ve played in small café corners and on large festival stages from York to London and across seas in Southern Spain. Their music has been broadcast both LIVE and as Studio Recordings on various radio stations across the region. Listen to the band on your favourite streaming service – or get an Old-School CD* signed by the band members at at the gig!
*A Floppy-Disc type thing that is both inconveniently large and prone to becoming lost and/or damaged. Please note that these no longer fit into most computers – so feel free to stream our music online instead!
Take these links to a few of the numbers that we expect to include in our Set at this event…..
Expect some divine easy on the ears sounds with a set which includes a few unexpected numbers.
Lola Rose Wilson worked with us in the studio on our 2021 Christmas release FIRST EVER CHRISTMAS. The song was adopted as The Official Theme to Whitby Winter Festival 2021. At only 19, and waiting in the wings for Music College later in the year, Lola is both modest and charming. She has a fabulous voice that seems effortless and delightful. We are SO excited to be able to introduce her at this event, and like the other musicians involved in this event she’ll be coming round to chat & say hello during the course of the evening.
Paul Whittaker really is a top-notch guitarist. Both technical and sensitive, Paul provides the perfect foil to Lola’s effortless vocals and together they make up a duo that is sure to be an easy-on-the ear, classy experience.
One-time session musician with “The Hit Factory” (Stock/Aitken & Waterman), Paul went on to work with the likes of Murray Head and Maggie Reilly. In his time has toured throughout Europe and in the USA. If you catch Paul for a chat on the night and you’ll find him both charming and modest. Mention any known musician from Paul’s era and he’ll likely have some story to relate.
Today Paul works as one of Whitby’s most in-demand guitar teachers with pupils of all ages. Paul works both in a School environment and at his home in Whitby. These days he also works remotely across the internet.
Our chief Caterer for the event is Liz @ Gingerbread Cottage. She has great experience in running supper clubs, festival catering, weddings and Parties. Liz has developed a reputation for consistent quality and generous portions of freshly cooked homely food. She’s always cheerful and loves these community events. She’s a real grafter and has established a great team for support. You’ll no doubt see Liz milling about – very busy – but mostly with a big smile for everyone. She’d love your feedback as well.
Liz can cater for most (if not all) special dietary requirements and is happy to discuss these with you before the event . You can call Liz on 01947 895730 (leave a message if there’s no immediate answer).
On arrival a member of our team will offer you a friendly welcome at the door. They’ll check your ticket and issue any reserved tickets, and show your table. Starters will be waiting for you to nibble at while you get settled in and enjoy a drink from the bar. There will be LIVE music throughout the evening, but we also want you to enjoy chatting to partners, friends & family and have a great time as part of the overall social buzz. Dining in such an historic space has it’s own fabulous atmosphere – so we’re certain that this event at Grosmont will be a particularly memorable evening.
We had a good take up for tickets and a great night when we last performed here (October 2021). There’s a great community atmosphere in Grosmont and so we’re anticipating a good turn out once again for this event.
We’re sending the supper club team to Church earlier in the day to dress the place up so that you’re sure to step through the doors into an atmospheric and welcoming communal atmosphere. Aside from being a Church, these days St Matthew also doubles up as a community hub for all kinds of village events. The venue is very quirky with pedestrian access (only). A short footpath alongside the historic railway tracks leads you over the scenic footbridge crossing of the Murk Esk river.
If you’re driving we suggest that you park in Grosmont Station car park (just across the road on the other side of the railway crossing). It’s free after 6.30pm. Come down earlier if you’ve not been to Grosmont before – there’s normally loads going on with the steam engines at this station and some great walks from this location too. No wonder it’s been featured in all kinds of movies – Harrison Ford was filming here just last year….
